There are no right angles on the bench to create a dynamic form. The form is comprised of three hallow stools which may be “corked” together or pulled apart. Because the tiles are rescued flooring, one side was factory finished with a water based urethane which allows for movement and extreme durability. The top of the seat is left over cork underlay and finished with a natural bees wax rub. The doors needed the inlay to be repaired and they needed to be reframed for structure. The clients's home office is a modern space on the 34th floor overlooking downtown Toronto, so I resembled the skyline in the bookshelf's design. The back rest and foot rest are joined to the legs and seat in an unusual/non-traditional way, intended to emphasize the idea of these two planes intersecting the legs and seat.
